THE ULTIMATE PARADIGM SHIFT

Basic paradigm shifts are rare enough. Any paradigm shift is a revolution and takes many decades to unfold. The cultural revolution unleashed by Jack Kerouac and the Beatniks in the 1950s has only come to its horrific fruition now in the 2020s. “Wokeness” is Kerouac’s toxic legacy.

The ultimate paradigm shift, as the ultimate revolution, is of course the most difficult of all to implement.

Let’s consider what Machiavelli said:

“It ought to be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things. Because the innovator has for enemies all those who have done well under the old conditions, and lukewarm defenders in those who may do well under the new. This coolness arises partly from fear of the opponents, who have the laws on their side, and partly from the incredulity of men, who do not readily believe in new things until they have had a long experience of them.”

People don’t flock to new ideas, especially if they are complicated, hard work, hard to imagine, and hard to relate to ordinary life … and, crucially, hard to monetize!

Schopenhauer said,

“Talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see.”

People aren’t going to flock to “invisible” things. And the amazing ideas of geniuses are ALWAYS invisible to the masses.

Schopenhauer said,

“All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

What Schopenhauer failed to say is that most truths are killed off at stage 1, nearly all at stage 2, and what survives is then taught in schools in stage 3 as “self-evident”. But it’s not!

Nietzsche said,

“A belief, however necessary it may be for the preservation of a species, has nothing to do with truth. The falseness of a judgment is not for us necessarily an objection to a judgment. The question is to what extent it is life-promoting, life-preserving, species preserving, perhaps even species cultivating. To recognize untruth as a condition of life – that certainly means resisting accustomed value feelings in a dangerous way; and a philosophy that risks this would by that token alone place itself beyond good and evil.”

Desirable untruths are the biggest obstacles humanity must overcome. Desirable untruths, seductive lies, have infinite appeal for the masses. The cold, harsh, clinical, indifferent truth has close to zero appeal for most people!

What gets taught in schools as self-evident is almost always TOTALLY FALSE. It’s not just truth that goes through Schopenhauer’s three stages, it’s also – and especially – LIES. Schopenhauer ought to have said,

“All grand falsehood passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

Lies are subjected to an arduous process, just as the truth is. The lies that emerge at the end are the most popular lies, those that most reflect deep human psychology, which is highly rooted in self-serving self-deceit! Because the truth is simply unbearable for most people. Which is exactly why Nietzsche said that the truth is forbidden on principle!

And that of course is the whole point of the ultimate paradigm shift – to overcome all the lies. Yet we know that there are INFINITE lies and only ONE truth, so that one truth is consequently facing MAXIMUM resistance. The truth is the LAST thing to be accepted.

Max Planck, founder of quantum physics, said,

“A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”

So, Planck basically said that it’s almost impossible for people – even very bright scientists – to change their minds and accept new ideas. They just can’t do it. You have to wait for older generations, with their old ideas, to die off before new ideas have any chance.

Of course, not all old people are so blinkered. There will always be some open-minded, radical thinkers amongst the elders of society, but they are invariably massively outnumbered by their closed-minded, inflexible peers.

By and large, new ideas are for the young, especially those who see glory in championing radical new ideas. The young have not yet succumbed to careerist Mandarinism. It’s remarkable how many scientific and mathematical geniuses did their great work before 25 and then became rather mediocre after that age.

Mathematician G. H. Hardy said,

“I had better say something here about this question of age, since it is particularly important for mathematicians. No mathematician should ever allow himself to forget that mathematics, more than any other art or science, is a young man’s game. To take a simple illustration at a comparatively humble level, the average age of election to the Royal Society is lowest in mathematics. We can naturally find much more striking illustrations. We may consider, for example, the career of a man who was certainly one of the world’s three greatest mathematicians. Newton gave up mathematics at fifty, and had lost his enthusiasm long before; he had recognized no doubt by the time he was forty that his greatest creative days were over. His greatest idea of all, fluxions and the law of gravitation, came to him about 1666, when he was twenty-four — ‘in those days I was in the prime of my age for invention, and minded mathematics and philosophy more than at any time since’. He made big discoveries until he was nearly forty (the ‘elliptic orbit’ at thirty-seven), but after that he did little but polish and perfect. Galois died at twenty-one, Abel at twenty-seven, Ramanujan at thirty-three, Riemann at forty. There have been men who have done great work a good deal later; Gauss’s great memoir on differential geometry was published when he was fifty (though he had had the fundamental ideas ten years before). I do not know an instance of a major mathematical advance initiated by a man past fifty. If a man of mature age loses interest in and abandons mathematics, the loss is not likely to be very serious either for mathematics or for himself.”

Nowadays, most people are already over 25 before they have got anywhere near the frontiers of whatever subject they are studying, and that means they have already lost the ability to be great innovators in that subject! Which means that genius can now barely impact the world. And it’s because genius is now banned, one way or another, that scientists will NEVER unify general relativity and quantum mechanics and arrive at a “final” theory. It takes a genius to effect that unification, but genius is now forbidden in science! There is simply no way for it to be expressed. The triumph of Mandarinism is total!

J. K. Galbraith said,

“The real accomplishment of modern science and technology consists in taking ordinary men, informing them narrowly and deeply and then, through appropriate organization, arranging to have their knowledge combined with that of other specialized but equally ordinary men. This dispenses with the need for genius. The resulting performance, though less inspiring, is far more predictable.”

And this is the exact truth of it. Genius has more or less been eliminated. No one wants genius. It’s too disruptive, too revolutionary. Mediocre mandarins are the order of the day, not bold thinkers challenging all the old ideas. Too many careers depend on the old nonsense.

J. K. Galbraith said,

“The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.”

People HATE thinking. They LOVE feeling. So, we live in a feeling world where emotional things go viral. Thinking things NEVER DO.

Galbraith said,

“Faced with the choice between changing one’s mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everybody gets busy on the proof.”

This is a simple fact of life, and you are not practical and realistic unless you accept it.

Galbraith said,

“There are two kinds of forecasters: those who don’t know, and those who don’t know they don’t know.”

The world is run by the latter!

Galbraith said,

“It is a far, far better thing to have a firm anchor in nonsense than to put out on the troubled seas of thought.”

That’s how humanity operates. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Galbraith said,

“Americans had built themselves a world of speculative pipe dreams. That world was inhabited, not by people who had to be convinced, but by people who sought excuses for believing.”

And that’s utterly true – people want to believe emotionally reassuring things and go out of their way, via confirmation bias, to believe what they want to believe – and disbelieve anything they dislike.

Galbraith said,

“Wisdom, itself, is often an abstraction associated not with fact or reality but with the man who asserts it and the manner of its assertion.”

People so often believe the messenger and barely care about the message!

All of society is invested in the sunk cost fallacy. Wikipedia says,

“Sunk costs often influence people’s decisions, with people believing that investments (i.e., sunk costs) justify further expenditures. People demonstrate ‘a greater tendency to continue an endeavor once an investment in money, effort, or time has been made’. This is the sunk cost fallacy, and such behavior may be described as ‘throwing good money after bad’, while refusing to succumb to what may be described as ‘cutting one’s losses’. People can remain in failing relationships because they ‘have already invested too much to leave’. Other people are swayed by arguments that a war must continue because lives will have been sacrificed in vain unless victory is achieved. Individuals caught up in psychic scams will continue investing time, money and emotional energy into the project, despite doubts or suspicions that something is not right. These types of behaviour do not seem to accord with rational choice theory and are often classified as behavioural errors.”

Countless careers are built on top of the world’s existing paradigms. Those people at the top of the pyramid are not going to abandon their wealth and power for new ideas, no matter how true those ideas are. Remember, humanity is not a truth species. It’s a survival, reproduction and power species. It doesn’t actually give a fuck about truth. It wants self-serving untruths that it can call “truth”. Actual truth is repulsive to nearly all humans.

We are not naive. We have no expectation of the world succumbing any time soon to TRUTH, to ontological mathematics and ontics. It will be a long, hard slog. It already has been. That’s the nature of the God Game.

Milton Friedman said,

“Only a crisis – actual or perceived – produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.”

Our job is to keep alive the intellectually impossible until it becomes the intellectually inevitable. It’s a job that someone needs to do, and we’re the ones doing it. That’s our mission, our sacred cause.

It’s largely a thankless task, but anyone who commits themselves to the TRUTH knows what they’re getting into – the exact opposite of the core tendency of humanity … a fundamentally LYING species.

Nietzsche said,

“Success has always been the greatest liar.” The world’s culture revolves around success, which is to say the greatest lies!

Such is life.

Online Illuminism has constantly failed. It has attracted some absolutely monstrous people, with the apex monster obviously being the seriously mentally ill freak Corey Rebhahn, an egregious plagiarist, grifter, conman and cult leader.

We need to try a new way to make online Illuminism a sane and productive scene that can actually accomplish things, and keep out all the crazies.

In these protected cocoons, far from the madding crowd, we are going to be carrying out many writing experiments. We might even release our books via Patreon only. We shall see. This is all an experiment at this stage.

Patreon offers a degree of protection of our work not available elsewhere. We need to protect our work from the sick Woke Nazi book burners and knowledge destroyers, and the psychopathic corporatocrats that detest free speech, as has been vividly demonstrated in recent times.

Our idea is to create a small, intelligent community, free of the monsters that have come our way in the past.

Our “Hollywood’s Patient Zero” channel is about exposing Woke Hollywood and the system of predation it feeds, and we intend to go to town exploring lurid conspiracy theories regarding how monstrous and evil Hollywood people are, and their close brethren in the apex predatory capitalist corporatocracy.

Our aim is to provide three or four essays a month on each Patreon channel. The writing will be highly experimental as we explore new ways of delivering our content, and play with new ideas and concepts.

So, in summary, we are doing a Patreon experiment – setting up four different Patreons – to see if we can achieve what we have hitherto failed to accomplish, namely establish an intelligent, mentally healthy and stable community that can grow and turn into something valuable. We want to establish a kind of private club for those interested in the deepest thinking and also the most controversial and radical thinking, and also entertaining conspiracy theories.

By having this community behind a Patreon wall, we can largely escape from all the social media crazies who have haunted our work for years. We can make it much harder for the dunces to access our information. And, with four different Patreon approaches, we can see what kind of style most prospers.

You will gain access to the most cutting-edge thinking available in the world today, and so controversial that, as you know, over 200 of our books were BANNED by the psychopathic, predatory corporatocracy. Intelligent free speech is as despised as the truth – because it’s an expression of the truth. The Woke want to KILL the truth so that they can live in their deranged shared fantasy.

Can we establish a sane, stable scene? If we can, then afterwards we can seek to expand this scene. But right now the task must be to keep out all the nutters, fantasists, cultists, plagiarists, narcissists, psychopaths, and so on. It’s a sad fact that our work – because it addresses fundamental reality – has served as a magnet for crazies with God complexes. It’s time to be sane, humble, and respectful.

We want this to be a PRODUCTIVE community. We won’t be chit-chatting with anyone on Patreon. That’s definitely not what this experiment is about. We don’t want time wasters. We want productive people doing productive things.

We are all about production, not consumption. Whenever we consume material, it’s simply as a jumping-off point for production. Production, creativity, is the name of the game. Use our material in the same way … as a launchpad for your own creativity, a platform for your own merit. Don’t waste your time on gossip and trivia. Look for opportunities to create, to produce, to do something worthwhile. Our only aim is to cultivate a productive community, producing excellence. If that doesn’t resonate with you, don’t get involved with this community. We need to get rid of the delusional, the lingerers, anomics, non-contributors and Ignavi once and for all. They have always ruined online Illuminism. Enough is enough. We need a shiny new scene, free of all the bums, deadbeats, nutjobs, parasites and plagiarists. We are meritocrats and merit is what it’s all about. We only want to associate with the meritorious. That’s the only way we ourselves will learn and grow and become more meritorious.

Machiavelli said,

“One can assess a prince’s intelligence by looking at the men with whom he surrounds himself.”

The meritorious surround themselves with the meritorious. Cult leaders surround themselves with cult slaves, wholly devoid of merit, and thus incapable of ever making any contribution and ever challenging the cult leader. In a meritocracy, the leader could be replaced at any time by someone of greater merit. In a cult, the leader can NEVER be replaced!

Our content isn’t what average people relate to, hence it can never go viral. However, we want to see if we CAN work out something that the masses WILL relate to and that WILL go viral, and we hope this Illuminist community will engage with this task and make its contribution to finding a topic that average people will be interested in, and which can also interest intelligent people.

Mathematics, science, and philosophy will never cut it. Average people HATE these subjects, for the simplest of reasons – they’re hard work and require intelligence. But PSYCHOLOGY must be able to deliver something that everyone finds of interest. What is the most enticing psychological idea that resonates with the masses?

Professor Max Tegmark spoke of being Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He said that in his conventional mode (Dr Jekyll), he followed mainstream science in his day-job. In his night-time Mr Hyde mode, he freely explored his true passion – his mathematical conception of reality, which mainstream science HATES. His colleagues, he often admits, constantly warn him off this topic! Isn’t that incredible? It shows you just how closed-minded scientists are. They hate mathematics despite being 100% reliant on it. That is TRULY WEIRD!

So, we shall adopt a similar approach to Tegmark, but with a reversed signature. Our Dr Jekyll mode is our true passion – ILLUMINATION – but we know it will not seduce the masses, so we want another mode, a Mr Hyde mode that anyone can relate to.

What Mr Hyde aspect unites EVERYONE?

Here’s our ambition … for the Illuminist Army to come up with a seductive idea that will succeed with the masses and become very popular. And that popularity can then be leveraged for good ends. The idea itself need have no connection at all to anything we have ever talked about. This is an exercise in practical psychology. It’s about being RELATABLE, not SMART. But smart people should be able to work out how to come up with something relatable.

Basically, we need to consider many, many ideas until we discover the one with the X-factor, the magic ingredient, that incredible quality of seductiveness. When you see a beautiful woman, you do not need to be convinced, persuaded. You don’t need to be won round. It’s all right there, unambiguously. Beauty has an extraordinary power, which is of course why Hollywood movies are jam-packed with the beautiful.

William S. Burroughs said,

“Junk is the ideal product … the ultimate merchandise. No sales talk necessary. The client will crawl through a sewer and beg to buy. … The junk merchant does not sell his product to the consumer, he sells the consumer to his product. He does not improve and simplify his merchandise. He degrades and simplifies the client. He pays his staff in junk.”

“Junk” comes in many forms. Obviously, some people will do anything to get heroin. Beauty has the same effect. People will do anything for it, to be in its presence. A brilliant song, or piece of art, has the same effect. Religions and spiritual systems and cults can completely overwhelm people. Intellectualism CANNOT. It relies on considered System 2 thinking, and anything that is System 2 rather than System 1 cannot go viral. Anything that places a barrier between the immediate experience and you is anti-viral. THINKING places a barrier between you and the experience; emotion does not. Thinking requires processing, work, reflection. Emotion does not.

So, here’s the game. What idea is so seductive that it smashes through all the barriers and is immediately appreciated by System 1? It doesn’t need System 2. It is immediately attractive, beautiful and seductive, and people want it and crave it and will do anything for it. Ideas like those are the ones that go viral. People can’t help themselves, just as people can’t help themselves when looking at a beautiful face.

What idea is as beautiful as beauty?!

Actually, “ugly” ideas can be very “beautiful” in the sense we mean. Look at how incredibly well the deranged QAnon conspiracy theory did. It came from nowhere but seduced a certain type of person more or less immediately, on first contact, and went viral.

It’s quite likely that a conspiracy theory is the version of an idea most likely to go viral. Why are people so interested in UFOs? It’s not because they are truly interested in aliens (humans, frankly, care only about humans!). What they are really interested in are secrets and mysteries and the notion that something is being deliberately hidden from them by the powers-that-be. People want to be “inside dopesters”, to be in the know. They associate that with POWER and they LOVE power. So, UFOs constitute a BIG SECRET and everyone imagines that if they are gaining access to this BIG SECRET then they have undergone a massive increase in POWER. As Nietzsche said, it’s all about WILL TO POWER. POWER IS THE ULTIMATE JUNK.

So, we need an idea something akin to QAnon or UFOs, something that addresses the fundamental need for POWER, the most desirable thing of all, which is why God, the perfect being, is defined as ALL POWERFUL, i.e., the fullest expression of Will to Power, the perfect Form of Power. We’re all in the power game. Don’t pretend otherwise.

Cults are all about power. The cult leader craves power, the power of God, and the submissive cult slaves get their power by attaching themselves to their God! That’s what the psychological force behind Abrahamism is. Nietzsche dismissed it as “slave morality”. The slaves don’t fight for power, as masters do. The slaves want to ally with power! They want to be absorbed by the powerful and protected by the powerful (rather than preyed upon).

The Neogenian Cult is another NXIVM in the making. Wikipedia says,

“NXIVM (NEK-see-əm) was a corporation that sold human potential development and self-help materials and devolved into a personality cult of its founder, imprisoned racketeer and sex offender Keith Raniere, serving as a front organization for criminal activity by him and his close associates. … The subsidiary companies of NXIVM recruited based on the multi-level marketing model and used curricula based on the intellectual property (‘tech’) of Raniere called ‘Rational Inquiry’. Courses attracted a variety of notable students including actors as well as the children of the rich and powerful. At its height, NXIVM had 700 active members. … Over its existence, former members and families of NXIVM clients alarmed by Raniere’s behavior and NXIVM’s practices spoke to investigative journalists of Forbes, Vanity Fair, The New York Observer, and the Times Union of Albany calling the organization a ‘cult’. The organization was criticized in similar terms by Rick Alan Ross of the Cult Education Institute and activists and academics from the anti-cult movement. In 2017, former members Sarah Edmondson, Bonnie Piesse and Mark Vicente, as well as Catherine Oxenberg (mother of member India Oxenberg) spoke to The New York Times and revealed grave concerns about Keith Raniere and NXIVM … Following the New York Times exposé, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York investigated the organization, and in 2018 brought criminal charges against Raniere, co-founder Nancy Salzman and her daughter Lauren, actress Allison Mack, Seagram heiress Clare Bronfman, and bookkeeper Kathy Russell. The U.S. Attorney’s Office argued in its Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act prosecution that NXIVM and its subsidiaries existed to promote, enhance and protect Raniere and members of the enterprise. The indictment alleges that Raniere and his co-defendants comprised an organized racketeering enterprise by recruiting others into NXIVM and DOS for financial and personal benefits and committed crimes ranging from sex trafficking to forced labor and visa and wire fraud. All defendants except for Raniere pled guilty. … Raniere chose to go to trial in 2019. Prosecutors revealed a decades-long pattern of grooming, sexual abuse of girls and women, physical and psychological punishments against dissenters, and hacking and vexatious litigation against enemies. Raniere was convicted on the top charge of racketeering and racketeering conspiracy as well as several other charges. Judge Nicholas Garaufis sentenced Raniere to 120 years imprisonment. Co-conspirators Clare Bronfman, Nancy Salzman, and Allison Mack were given lesser prison sentences. Lauren Salzman and Kathy Russell were each given non-prison sentences. Following Raniere’s conviction, he continues to direct a small set of loyal members from his prison cell, encouraging continued recruitment. At his direction, members of the group danced outside Raniere’s jail and staged protests against individual prosecutors. Based on statements of support, it was estimated that about 50 to 60 persons remain loyal to Raniere.”

Cults can take a long time to be exposed and taken down. That’s a sad fact of life. And even when the cult has its mask ripped off, the most fanatical cult slaves go on believing anyway.
